Greg Surmacz is a musician originally from Wolverhampton but now based in Leeds, having settled there upon graduating from Leeds College Of Music (BA Jazz Studies). He is a prolific and experienced performer, writer, producer and teacher specialising in woodwind instruments.

He has been involved in many aspects of the music industry including various bands and projects, commissioned composition/production, working with rappers and singers, musical direction, radio, session work and performing regularly across the UK and Europe. Stylistically his tastes and interests are diverse, taking in everything from jazz and funk to hip-hop and electronic music.

Greg's music has been released by several labels including Wah Wah 45sTru ThoughtsCompost and Big Dada; broadcast on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Radio 3, 6 Music, Rinse FM, Worldwide FM, Jazz FM and more; and he has performed at some of the UK's biggest festivals.

In 2021 he released his first proper solo work - a pair of albums, 'Timelines (Parts 1 and 2)' on XVI Records. These were critically well-received for their integration of electronic music and woodwind arrangements, garnering support from 6 Music, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM, NTS and Bandcamp Weekly. A third record, 'Timelines (Part 3)', was released in 2022.

 

Greg's current album 'What We Can Assume' was released in July 2023. His most acclaimed yet, it garnered support and praise from Jamie Cullum (Radio 2), Gilles Peterson (6 Music), Tom Ravenscroft (6 Music) and more.
